Made in Italy on a converting line: what it really means, beyond the label

A label that needs explaining
When customers compare offers from machine builders in different countries, “Italian” is often read as a synonym for “more expensive” or “better looking”. Neither reading helps anyone decide. The useful question is a different one: what do I gain in production, every day, from a line designed and built in Italy? For us the answer lies in three very concrete things: where the machine is born, what is declared, and who stays at the customer's side.
Designing and building in the same place
Our lines are born in Valle Salimbene, in the province of Pavia. This is where we design, assemble and test them. SAP dosing units, hot melt applicators, rotary filters, hammer mills and stackers are our own technologies, and many mechanical parts are machined in our own workshop. Having the engineering office a few metres from the machine tools shortens the loop between an idea, a part and a check. When a unit needs improving, the person who designed it sees the result in the workshop, not in a sub-supplier's report.
Declaring what the line does every day
The Italian mechanical tradition has a less-told side: pragmatism. The speeds we state are continuous production speeds, not peak values reached during acceptance testing: 600/800 ppm for Baby Diaper and Baby Pants, 200/300 ppm for Adult Diaper and Adult Pants, 300 ppm for Underpad, 1200 ppm for Light Inco, up to 1500 ppm for Lady Care. Pieces per minute and linear metres per minute are consistent with each other: 800 ppm with 400 m/min, across the full size range. A figure you find again in production is worth more than a record at a trade show.
A family company, a contact who stays
We are a family company with more than 40 years of experience. For the customer this means continuity: the people who designed the line are the same ones who answer when, years later, a spare part, a modification or a revamping is needed. It is a way of working typical of many Italian manufacturing companies. In a sector where a line produces for decades, it matters more than it seems.
The middle ground, by choice
Made in Italy does not necessarily mean the very top end. We deliberately position ourselves between low-cost builders and high-end suppliers: medium speed, reliability, competitive investment. Our lines are designed for two operators and comply with Directive 2006/42/EC. We design what is needed and build it well, without adding complexity the customer will then have to maintain.
Italian engineering that travels
Today more than 100 of our lines run in around 30 countries: Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Taiwan, the Americas. Installation, training, spare parts and service are part of the same package. The Italian quality that counts for a producer in Nigeria or India is a builder who knows the machine part by part and answers when needed.
If you are evaluating a line, ask every supplier where it is designed, what is built in-house and which speeds are guaranteed in continuous production. The answers say much more than a flag in the catalogue.
